Plaka Beach
Description
The Picturesque Harbor with the Island Breeze
Plaka Beach is the seaport and harbour of historic Leonidio. It is a beautiful seaside destination that combines the authenticity of a traditional fishing village with cosmopolitan amenities. It is essentially divided by the harbour into two coasts: a smaller and sheltered one in the interior of the bay and a vast, open coastline that stretches for kilometres to the north.
- Type of coast: It is covered by a combination of fine sand and smooth white pebbles with crystal clear, transparent and deep turquoise waters. The springs of Agios Nikolaos flow into the area, offering an additional sense of coolness.
- Suitable for: Ideal for families (especially the protected inner bay next to the harbor), for groups of friends, couples, but also for water sports and snorkeling enthusiasts.
- Infrastructure: Excellently organized in places with beach bars, umbrellas, sunbeds, as well as municipal infrastructure (showers, changing rooms, WC). Right next door are excellent fish taverns with fresh seafood, a mini market, rooms to rent and a highly rated campsite.
- Access: Very easy via an asphalt road, as it is only 4 km from the center of Leonidio. The beach has a large free parking area right next to the shore.
