The Unknown and Wild Sanctuary of Elafonisos
Aglyftis Beach (or Agios Glyptis) is the steepest and most isolated beach of Elafonisos. It is hidden in the western part of the island, protected behind the rocky islet of Katonisi. It is an earthly paradise of wild, unspoiled nature whose only companion is the picturesque, small chapel of Agios Patapios.
- Type of beach: Narrow strip of fine sand, pebbles and rocks. The waters are extremely shallow, crystal clear and calm, as Katonisi cuts the waves of the sea.
- Suitable for: Adventure lovers, trekking and absolute isolation. Top destination for snorkeling and fishing. Not suitable for young children due to the difficult route.
- Infrastructure: Completely unorganized. There is no infrastructure or natural shade, so it is mandatory to bring water, snacks and the necessary equipment with you.
- Access: It is done either by boat/boat by sea, or via a demanding and difficult coastal path of about 3 kilometers that starts from Panagia Beach. Suitable closed shoes and long pants are required for the thorns.
