An Exotic Journey Above Sunken History
Pounta Beach is one of the most stunning and historic destinations in Laconia, as it is located directly opposite Elafonisos. The scenery is captivating, as the vast coastline is surrounded by golden dunes, rare sea cedar and the Strongyli lagoon. Its biggest secret, however, is hidden just below the surface of the water: the submerged prehistoric city of Pavlopetri, the oldest in the world.
- Type of coast: Vast, velvety golden sand with crystal clear, shallow, crystal turquoise waters reminiscent of a huge natural swimming pool.
- Suitable for: Families with young children due to the smooth and shallow sea. It is considered a world-class snorkeling destination, as you swim over ancient Pavlopetri. It is also suitable for windsurfing and kitesurfing.
- Infrastructure: Basically unorganized and pristine. It has a small organized section with a beach bar, umbrellas and sun loungers, while in the area around the port there are traditional taverns and rooms to rent.
- Access: Very easy by road via an asphalt road (12 km from Neapoli). The road ends right next to the beach and the departure point of the ferry boats to Elafonisos, offering a huge and free parking space.
