Marathia Beach
Description
When Golden Sand and Green Pine Trees Become One
Marathia Beach (or Marathea) is one of the most impressive, pristine and "protected" seaside secrets of Ilia. It is located just 4 kilometers west of Amaliada and 19 kilometers from Pyrgos, forming the natural and wild continuation of the famous Kourouta beach. Its absolute trademark is the dense, wild coastal forest of Marathia, covering an area of approximately 840 acres, which surrounds it, with the pine trees reaching almost to where the waves break, creating a unique exotic osmosis of nature and sea.
- Type of coast: An endless, wide and crystal clear strip of fine, golden sand that continues evenly and without stones into the seabed. The waters of the Ionian Sea are crystal clear, clear and deepen very smoothly, making the sea ideal for endless hours of swimming.
- Suitable for: Families with small children, due to the very shallow and safe waters, but also for nature lovers, walkers or runners. The forest located right behind offers countless shady walking paths, while the beach is ideal for those seeking absolute tranquility and romance away from the crowds.
- Infrastructure: In contrast to the neighboring and bustling Kourouta, Marathia appears much less pretentious and commercial. It has some discreetly organized areas with umbrellas, sun loungers and a café-bar, but most of it remains completely free to enjoy nature with your own equipment.
- Access: Very easy by car via the road network from Amaliada. The road crosses a section of the pine forest and leads a few meters from the sand, where you will find plenty of free parking under the natural, thick shade of the trees.
