Drepano Beach
Description
The World Kitesurfing "Paradise" with the Impressive Sandbank and the Historic Lighthouse
Drepano Beach is one of the most impressive, unique and internationally recognized beaches in the entire Peloponnese. It is located in the Corinthian Gulf, at the northernmost point of the peninsula, within the boundaries of the municipal unit of Rio in the Municipality of Patras. The absolute trademark of the area is a long narrow strip of land (sandbank) that enters the sea and "cuts" it in two, leaving one side with waves and the other completely flat. At the end of this strip, the historic Drepano Lighthouse dominates, built in 1880. Due to its steady and strong winds, the beach has become a world-famous hotspot for kitesurfing and windsurfing, attracting athletes from every corner of the globe.
- Type of coast: A vast, untouched coastline covered in fine and coarse pebbles outside, while its bottom turns into clean sand. The waters are clear, transparent and relatively deep, while due to the currents they are constantly renewed. In some parts of the coast there are large trees that reach almost to the wave, offering rich natural shade.

Note: Due to the strong currents and winds, it is not considered the most ideal beach for young children or beginner swimmers.
- Suitable for: Extreme sports enthusiasts, kitesurfers, windsurfers and adventurous travelers. Due to its large area, the back of the beach is also ideal for those looking for a completely quiet and relaxed getaway, away from the crowds.
- Infrastructure: Mainly unorganized for the most part, maintaining its pristine charm. However, in the heart of the kite spot there are specialized schools, offering lessons, equipment rental, rescue services and all-day cafes/snacks. Along the wider settlement you will find traditional tavernas and rooms to rent.
