The First European Certified Trail in Greece with Lush Fir-Covered Routes
The Menalon Trail is the most famous, top and comprehensive hiking destination of Mountainous Arcadia. It is located in the heart of the Peloponnese, in a privileged location that crosses the Menalon mountain range and the Lousios River valley, connecting 8 historical villages: Stemnitsa, Dimitsana, Zygovisti, Elati, Vytina, Nymphasia, Magouliana and Valtesiniko, to end in Lagadia. The great advantage of the area is the rich, unspoiled nature of dense fir forests, ancient plane trees and running waters, which create an ideal environment for hiking, which extends over a total length of 75 kilometers.
- Route type: A continuous, exemplary signposted network divided into 8 autonomous daily routes with varying degrees of difficulty. It combines old stone cobblestones, shady forest paths, dirt roads and gorge passages, offering safe touring with the Leading Quality Trails - Best of Europe seal of quality.
- Suitable for: Nature lovers, experienced climbers, beginner hikers, and families (depending on the selected section). The trail is traditionally famous for its cultural and historical character, as it passes through traditional settlements, stone bridges, ruins of ancient cities, historic monasteries, and old watermills.
- Infrastructure: Excellent and professionally organized. Along the entire length of the route there is dense and clear signage with special signs (the characteristic green sign with the "M"), wooden kiosks and maps. In each of the village-stations there are traditional guesthouses, shops with local products, pharmacies and excellent taverns, offering full support to hikers.
- Access: Very easy, fast and direct. The journey from Athens takes approximately 2 hours (170-200 km) via the Corinth - Tripoli highway, heading either towards Stemnitsa or towards Vytina. Access to the individual sections is direct by car, while the wider area is served by the Intercity Bus Service of Arcadia. Ample, free parking is available in each starting village.
