The Cosmopolitan Cove of Ancient Phiea in Ilia
Agios Andreas Beach is one of the most special, historic and popular beaches of the western Peloponnese. It is nestled in a pine-covered bay of exceptional natural beauty, right at the foot of the medieval Pontikokastro. The spot has enormous historical significance, as at the bottom of the bay lies Ancient Phiea, which in antiquity was the second most important port of Ilia. Today, Agios Andreas combines the wild beauty of the rocks with the intense summer life.
- Type of coast: Small, picturesque cove with a mix of sand and pebbles on the shore, which is surrounded by low rocks and clayey soils. The crystal clear waters of the Ionian Sea are crystal clear, but they deepen relatively quickly in the first few meters, with the bottom having a steep slope.
- Suitable for: Young people, groups and couples looking for a lively, cosmopolitan atmosphere. It is also an ideal destination for snorkeling enthusiasts, as the rocky seabed of Ancient Phiia and the rich marine biodiversity offer themselves for underwater exploration.
- Infrastructure: Very well organized. The beach has amphitheatrically built, stylish beach bars and cafes that offer umbrellas and sun loungers, while showers, changing rooms, as well as a special platform and infrastructure (Seatrac) for the disabled are available. At the same time, excellent seaside taverns and restaurants operate.
- Access: Very easy by car via the provincial network from Pyrgos or Katakolo. The road reaches the settlement, where there is a comfortable and free parking space very close to the coast.
