Aktaio Beach

The Busy Beach with a “View” of the Bridge and Traditional Ouzo Bars

Aktaio Beach is one of the most popular, lively and easily accessible beaches in the wider Patras area. It is located in the Gulf of Patra, in the seaside settlement of the same name in the Municipality of Patras (municipality of Rio), just 11 kilometers northeast of the center of Patras. Aktaio borders directly with the cosmopolitan Rio and Agios Vasilios. The absolute hallmark of the beach is the captivating and close view of the imposing Rio-Antirio Bridge, which dominates the horizon and creates a unique setting, ideal for afternoon walks and relaxation.
  • Type of coast: A flat, extensive coastline covered by fine pebbles and sand, which are extremely "friendly" and comfortable to walk on. Its waters are clean, clear and constantly renewed due to the sea currents of the strait, although the area is busy due to the ferry boats.
  • Suitable for: Families, groups of young people and the elderly, as it offers easy access to the water. It is the top choice for those who want to combine a relaxing sea swim with good traditional food and coffee by the sea.
  • Infrastructure: Very well organized in several parts, but with plenty of free space. The coast has umbrellas, sun loungers, showers, while during the summer months it is constantly covered by a professional lifeguard for the safety of bathers. Along the coastal zone, there are excellent traditional fish taverns, famous ouzo bars and all-day cafes.
  • Access: Very easy, fast and direct. The journey from the center of Patras takes only 10-15 minutes by car, while the beach has a comfortable and free parking space. In addition, it is served exemplarily by the Patras Suburban Railway (with alighting at Rio or Aktaio Station) and by public transport.
