The Historic Building of the Second National Assembly with the Rare Roman Treasures of Kynouria
The Archaeological Museum of Astros (which is housed in the emblematic building of the old Karytsiotis School) is one of the most important, historically charged and timeless cultural destinations of North Kynouria in Arcadia. It is located in the eastern Peloponnese, in a privileged location in the center of the historic Mediterranean Astros., about 40 kilometers east of Tripoli and just 4 kilometers from Paralio Astros. The huge advantage of the museum is that it is housed in the building that was founded in 1805. by the national benefactor Demetrios Karytsiotis and in its courtyard (the "Sacred Space") the Second National Assembly of the Greeks convened in April 1823, making it a living monument of antiquity.

- Exhibition type: An exceptionally rich archaeological collection developed in the interior rooms of the neoclassical stone building and in the large, well-kept garden. The tour combines rare ancient objects of daily life, tombstones, coins and inscriptions from the excavations of the wider area, with the highlight being the impressive sculptures of Roman times coming from the famous and neighboring Villa of Herodes Atticus.

Although the museum remained closed for a while due to static restoration work and radical re-exhibition after damage suffered by an earthquake, the courtyard of the National Assembly with its special commemorative mound and tall trees is an excellent place for historical reading. In the settlement of Astros, traditional guesthouses, cafes, shops and Arcadian taverns operate.

The journey from Tripoli takes approximately 40 minutes by carvia the paved provincial network, while from Athens the distance is approximately 2 hours via Argos. As the museum is located in the central web of the Mediterranean Astros, the approach is direct, while ample free parking is available around the archaeological and historical site.
