Archaeological Site of Ancient Mantineia

The Imposing Plain Fortress of Arcadia with the Circular Walls and the Special Temple The Archaeological Site of Ancient Mantinea is one of the most important, extensive and timeless historical destinations of Central Arcadia. It is located in the heart of the Peloponnese, in a privileged, lowland location within the fertile Mantinea plain, approximately 12 kilometers north of Tripoli. The great advantage of the site is its unique fortification architecture, as the ancient city is surrounded by an impressive circular wall 4.5 kilometers long with 12 gates and 122 towers, creating an ideal environment for a historical tour of an area that was one of the most powerful city-states of antiquity.

The tour brings to light the most important public buildings of the ancient agora, such as the Ancient Theater (capacity 6,200 spectators), the Bouleuterion, the large Gymnasium and the ruins of the Temple of Zeus Sotiros.

It has information signs, while the proximity to the famous temple of Agia Fotini offers direct access to the surrounding area with grass, shady trees, a well and a traditional cafe/refreshment bar. • Access: Very easy, fast and direct. The journey from the center of Tripoli takes just 12-15 minutes by car via the Tripoli - Olympia Provincial Road. The route is completely flat and paved, while for visitors from Athens the distance is approximately 1.5 hours via the Olympia Road (Exit for Nemea/Levidi). In front of the entrance to the site and the church, there is a large, comfortable free parking area.
