The Virgin Paradise of the Pine Forest and the Neda Estuaries
Elaia Beach is one of the most impressive, vast and authentic coastlines in the entire Peloponnese. Located on the northwestern tip of Messinia, the coast extends for many kilometers along the Kyparissia Gulf. Its absolute trademark is the huge, dense coastal pine forest (one of the largest in Greece) that reaches almost to the sandy beach, while at the northern end of the beach the famous Neda River flows.
- Type of coast: An endless, wide strip of fine, golden sand from end to end, with crystal clear, blue waters of the Ionian Sea. The sea deepens smoothly, offering a wonderful sense of freedom.
- Natura 2000 protection: The area is part of the strictly protected zones of Trifylia, as its sandy beach is one of the most important nesting sites for the Caretta-Caretta sea turtle in Greece. In the summer, the nests are carefully marked for their protection.
- Suitable for: Nature lovers, hikers, but also for free camping enthusiasts. The pine forest offers plenty of natural shade and coolness, making the beach a favorite base for those seeking absolute relaxation and contact with nature.
- Infrastructure: Elaia largely maintains its pristine and unorganized character. You will not find large commercial beach bars with loud music. It has only basic amenities, such as showers, trash cans and two organized canteens for the necessary supplies. Traditional taverns operate in the nearby village.
- Access: Very easy by car via the Pyrgos - Kyparissia National Road (E9). The road crosses the magnificent forest and leads a few meters from the wave, where there is ample and free parking under the shade of the trees.
