The Endless Golden Beach with its Unique Ecosystem
Kaiafas Beach is one of the most impressive, unspoiled and long coastlines in all of Europe. It is located in southern Ilia (Municipality of Zacharo), approximately 25 kilometers from Ancient Olympia and 2.5 kilometers from Zacharo. It is part of the vast Kyparissia Gulf and is famous for its unique environment, as its vast sandy beach is separated by a dense coastal pine forest, behind which extends the famous Lake of Kaiafas with its famous thermal baths.
- Type of coast: An immense, wide strip of fine, golden sand that extends for many kilometers, forming large natural dunes. The waters of the Ionian Sea are crystal clear, azure, very shallow in the first few meters and deepen with an extremely smooth slope.
- Natura 2000 protection: The entire area is included in the Natura 2000 protection network. The landscape is full of beautiful white sea lilies that grow on the sand, while the coast is an important refuge for the reproduction of the Caretta-Caretta sea turtle.
- Suitable for: Nature lovers, families with young children due to the shallow waters, but also those who love water sports. In addition, due to its vast area, a section of the beach (near the old railway station) is traditionally very popular as a nudist beach.
- Infrastructure: The beach maintains its pristine and unorganized character. There are no large commercial beach bars with loud music. It has only basic amenities (such as showers and umbrellas) in selected spots, so it is necessary to bring your own equipment, water and snacks.
- Access: Very easy by road via the Pyrgos - Kyparissia National Road. The road reaches behind the dunes, where there is ample space for free parking, and then follows a short, beautiful walk of a few minutes through the pine forest to reach the shore.
