The Exotic "Paradise" of Western Peloponnese with the Sand Dunes and the Strofylia Forest
Kalogria Beach is undoubtedly one of the most famous, impressive and exotic beaches in all of Greece. It is located on the northwestern tip of the Peloponnese, within the boundaries of the Municipality of Western Achaia, approximately 40-45 kilometers southwest of Patras. Its absolute trademark is its breathtaking environment: the coast is fully integrated into the Kotychio-Strofylia National Wetlands Park. Behind the coast lies the magnificent Strofylia Forest (22,000 acres), which is the largest pine forest in Greece. In the northern part of the beach, a huge, imposing sand dune dominates, giving the landscape a unique, “saharian” aesthetic.
- Type of coast: An endless, golden coastline that stretches for an impressive 9 kilometers and a width of up to 150 meters. It is covered by fine, soft sand both in and out of the water. The waters of the Ionian Sea are crystal clear, turquoise and shallow, deepening at an extremely slow rate. The coast is consistently awarded the Blue Flag and is protected by the Natura 2000 network.
- Suitable for: Families with young children due to the endless sand, safety and very shallow waters, groups, but also adventure lovers who want to climb the large sand dune to enjoy the view or explore the unique wetland.
- Infrastructure: Very well organized in places. In specific sections, modern beach bars with umbrellas, sun loungers, showers, changing rooms, water sports facilities and lifeguard coverage operate. Due to its enormous size, it has countless free sections for absolute isolation. The area is dominated by the large all-inclusive resort, as well as neat taverns.
- Access: Very easy and extremely picturesque. It is about 40 minutes by car from Patras and around 2.5 hours from Athens (230 km) via Olympia Odos. The route passes through wetlands and the forest, offering unique images. Ample free parking is available near the coast.
