The Exotic Sands of Zorba in Mani
Kalogria Beach is the absolute seaside jewel of Western Mani and one of the most famous beaches of the Peloponnese. Its historical significance is enormous, as it was here that Nikos Kazantzakis was inspired to write the world-famous literary masterpiece "Zorba the Greek".
- Type of beach: Fine, velvety golden sand on the shore and at the bottom, with crystal clear waters. It is characterized by the underground freshwater springs that gush from Taygetos into the sea, keeping it permanently refreshing and clear.
- Suitable for: Families with young children due to the very shallow sea and the smooth slope of the seabed. Ideal choice for groups, young people, but also for snorkeling enthusiasts around the rocks.
- Infrastructure: Excellently organized with numerous beach bars, umbrellas, sunbeds, showers, changing rooms and a lifeguard. It has beach volleyball courts, pedal boats, traditional taverns and quality accommodation above. Free space on the sand is limited in August.
- Access: Very easy by road (just 1 km north of Stoupa and 45 km from Kalamata). Parking is available in the municipal parking lots or along the surrounding roads.
