Katakolo Beach

The Sandy Coast of the Famous Port of Ilia

Katakolos Beach (with the most popular sections Rendesi and Kavos) extends around the picturesque seaside settlement of the same name, which is world-famous as the main cruise port of western Greece for welcoming tourists visiting Ancient Olympia. The coastline combines the cosmopolitan aura of the marina with an extensive, calm sandy beach, offering an ideal choice for those who want to combine a stroll in the port with a refreshing swim in the Ionian Sea.
  • Type of coast: Fine, golden sand stretches along the coast and continues evenly into the seabed, without stones. The waters are crystal clear, framed by the picturesque bay and are particularly shallow, making the sea very warm and safe.
  • Suitable for: Families with young children, due to the very shallow waters and the absence of strong waves, as the bay is naturally protected. It is also preferred by cruise ship passengers and visitors who want immediate access to all the amenities of the city.
  • Infrastructure: Extremely organized in many places. You will find organized beach bars with umbrellas, sun loungers, showers and changing rooms. Right next door, along the pedestrian coastal zone of the port, there are dozens of tourist shops, cafes, restaurants and traditional taverns.
  • Access: Very easy and direct. You can reach it by road from Pyrgos via the main road, by local bus (KTEL), or even by the scenic train that connects Ancient Olympia and Pyrgos with Katakolo. There is a comfortable, large and free parking area near the port.
