The Unexplored Paradise on Earth with the Strofylia Forest and the Accessible Islet
Kounoupelaki Beach (or Kounoupeli) is one of the most impressive, pristine and exotic "hidden" beaches of the Western Peloponnese. It is located in the Ionian Sea, on the administrative borders of the prefectures of Achaia and Ilia (6 kilometers northwest of Manolada) and is the natural continuation of the famous Kalogria beach. The beach is fully integrated into the protected Kotychio - Strofylia National Wetlands Park. Its absolute trademark is the stunning combination of golden sand dunes with an impressive rocky islet at its edge, which is accessible on foot through the shallow waters.
- Type of beach: A vast, virgin sandy beach that stretches for 3.4 kilometers. It is covered by fine golden sand outside, but also inside the seabed. The waters of the Ionian Sea are crystal clear, crystal clear and very shallow, deepening at an extremely gentle rate, which makes aqua socks completely unnecessary.
- Suitable for: Families with small children due to the shallow waters, free vacationers, but also nudists or couples seeking isolation in the back dunes. The seabed around the rocky islet is the absolute paradise for snorkeling and collecting shells.
- Infrastructure: Mainly unorganized, maintaining its "unspoiled" character. However, at one point on the coast, the Cantina operates during the summer months, which offers coffee, cool cocktails, snacks, as well as a few umbrellas with sun loungers. There are no other commercial infrastructure or restaurants nearby.
- Access: Very easy and comfortable for any type of vehicle, even for motorhomes. It is approximately 39 kilometers (about 35-40 minutes) from Patras. The route passes through the beautiful pine forest of Strofylia. You can park for free on the dirt road right behind the beach.
