Methoni Beach

Bathing in the Shadow of the Imposing Castle and Bourtzi

Methoni Beach (central coast) offers one of the most special and atmospheric swimming experiences in Messinia. It is located in the homonymous historical settlement, approximately 11 kilometers south of Pylos. Its great advantage is the unique, panoramic view of the famous Venetian Castle of Methoni and the fortified Bourtzi, which rise right at the edge of the bay, creating a setting that seems to have come from another era.
  • Type of coast: Fine, golden sand and shallow, crystal clear waters that warm up quickly. The bay is extremely sheltered and protected from strong winds, making the sea almost always calm and safe, like a large natural swimming pool.
  • Suitable for: Families with young children due to the shallow waters and easy access, but also for history and photography lovers. It is also an ideal destination for those who want to combine a full day at sea with a visit and tour of the interior of the castle.
  • Infrastructure: Very well organized in several places with umbrellas, sunbeds, showers and changing rooms. Just above, along the coastal road, there are excellent traditional taverns, cafes and ouzo bars. At the same time, there are large free areas for those who want to spread out their mat.
  • Access: Very easy by road, as the beach extends right in front of the settlement. There is a comfortable and free parking space near the entrance to the castle and along the coast, allowing you to be on the sandy beach within a few seconds on foot.
