Rio Beach
Description
The Lively Coastline with a Stunning View of the Bridge and the Historic Castle
Rio Beach is one of the most recognizable, vibrant and cosmopolitan beaches in the area, just a stone's throw from Patras. Its absolute trademark is the stunning, panoramic view of the Rio-Antirrio cable-stayed Bridge, combined with the historic Rio Castle that dominates one end of it. Due to its proximity to the University of Patras, the area is bustling with life both winter and summer, while a major bioclimatic regeneration of the coastal zone was recently implemented, transforming the pedestrian walkway into a modern gem for strolling.
- Type of coast: A long, pebbly coastline with clear, blue and cool waters. Its special feature is the natural shade offered by the walls of the Castle during the afternoon hours.
- Suitable for: Groups of young people and students due to the intense all-day entertainment, couples looking for a romantic sunset with the illuminated bridge as a backdrop, and families. In addition, it is extremely pet friendly.
- Infrastructure: Super-organized. Along the renovated sidewalk there are countless beach bars, trendy cafes, clubs and excellent restaurants that stay open until late at night. It has umbrellas, sun loungers and showers, while the area is dominated by large hotel units.
- Access: Very easy and direct. It is only 8 kilometers from the center of Patras (about 10-15 minutes) and about 2 hours from Athens via Olympia Odos. It is served exemplarily by the Patras Suburban Railway (Kastellokampos or Rio Station) and urban transport. Parking spaces are available, although patience is required during peak summer hours.
