Elati, one of the most peaceful and authentic traditional settlements of mountainous Arcadia, is a small, isolated village of the Municipality of Gortynia built on the densely vegetated slopes of western Mainalo at an altitude of 1,200 meters, which rightly constitutes an earthly paradise for those seeking absolute tranquility and direct contact with the virgin fir forest. A point of reference of the area is its historical connection with the ancient Arcadian city of Methydrion but also its old location at the location of “7 Psomia”, where the old settlement (Garzenikos) flourished until the 18th century, before being moved to its current location next to Dirrema. Today, Elati enchants the visitor with the stone parish church of Panagia, the scattered traditional houses and the famous woodcarving workshop that operates there, where local craftsmen are inspired by nature and create unique works of art.
