Labeia
Lampeia (also known as Lampia or by its older name, Divri)—one of the most imposing and historic traditional settlements in the mountainous region of Ilia—is a renowned large village within the Municipality of Ancient Olympia. Built in an amphitheater-like layout on the slopes of the Lampeia Mountains (a spur of Mount Erymanthos) at an altitude of 900 meters, it rightly attracts visitors thanks to its unparalleled natural beauty and the preservation of its authentic Peloponnesian architecture. A key landmark of the area is the historic 15th-century Monastery of Zoodochos Pigi (or the Ano Divri Monastery), which served as a significant spiritual center and a "Secret School" during the Ottoman occupation; the village is also noted for its substantial contribution to the Greek War of Independence of 1821. Due to its rugged and naturally fortified location, Divri never experienced a permanent occupier presence and emerged as a stronghold for the region's *klephts* and *armatoloi*; furthermore, the ancient traveler Pausanias referred to Mount Lampeia as a sacred site dedicated to the god Pan. Today, Lampeia captivates visitors with its seven picturesque neighborhoods (hamlets), well-preserved stone houses, and narrow streets. ...narrow streets, the 12th-century Byzantine church of Agia Triada, and its famous traditional stone fountains—most notably the Gavrovikos spring at the settlement's entrance—which gush with cool, crystal-clear water all year round. Distinguished by its strategic location roughly halfway along the historic Patras-Tripoli National Road (Route 111) and surrounded by a dense, lush fir forest, it is a premier destination for enthusiasts of history, tradition, and alternative activities, such as mountaineering and trekking to the imposing "Analipsi" peak (1,794 m).
