Elaia Messinias (often referred to as Elia or historically as Bouzi), a beautiful seaside settlement in the Municipality of Trifylia, is an earthly, unspoiled paradise on the northwestern borders of the prefecture with Ilia, built next to the mouth of the Neda River. The area is world famous for its vast, exotic beach with golden sand and the clear blue waters of the Ionian Sea, which is one of the most important protected habitats for the reproduction of the sea turtle Caretta caretta. Just above the coast stretches one of the largest and most impressive coastal pine forests in Greece, which has long been a pole of attraction for nature lovers and hikers. Today, Elaia retains its authentic natural beauty untouched, offering an oasis of absolute tranquility, some traditional taverns (such as Mythos and Iliovasilema) with exquisite flavors, as well as easy access to Kyparissia and Zacharo.
