Pylos

Pylos (historically also known as Navarino), the stately and picturesque town of southwestern Messinia, is a beautiful destination built amphitheatrically on the south side of the historic bay of Navarino, captivating the visitor with its intense island character. The city, which is inextricably linked to the famous Battle of Navarino in 1827 but also to the Homeric King Nestor, impresses with its central Three Admirals Square, which is filled with huge, century-old plane trees, arches and traditional cafes. The area's landmark is the imposing Niokastro, one of the best preserved Ottoman castles in Greece, which crowns the city, while the landscape is uniquely complemented by the natural wall of the island of Sfaktiria. Today, Pylos is a top, cosmopolitan destination that perfectly combines history with the sea breeze, offering excellent hospitality infrastructure and easy access to some of the most famous beaches in Greece, such as the exotic Voidokilia and Chrysi Ammos.
