Tropaia

Tropaia, one of the most imposing and historic traditional settlements of mountainous Arcadia, is a lively and stately village of the Municipality of Gortynia, built amphitheatrically on the northwestern slopes of Mainalo at an altitude of 740 meters, which rightfully constitutes the economic and administrative center of the wider region of Vanaina due to its strategic location and its rich market. A point of reference of the area is the nearby artificial Lake of Ladonas and the emblematic Ladonas Dam, one of the oldest in Greece, as well as the long historical path of the village since the time of the Frankish rule, when it was connected to the famous Barony of Akova. Today, Tropea enchants the visitor with its large stone mansions, narrow cobblestone streets and spacious central square with traditional cafes and taverns, while offering a breathtaking view of the surrounding green slopes.
