Diakopto

Diakopto, a beautiful and world-famous seaside town in eastern Aegialia, is a unique destination in Achaia built on the shores of the Corinthian Gulf, which uniquely combines the sea breeze with the wild mountain beauty. The town is internationally known as the starting point of the legendary Cog Railway (Diakopto - Kalavrita), which since 1896 has been crossing the breathtaking and verdant Vouraikos Gorge, offering one of the most impressive railway routes in the Balkans. In addition to the historic station and the museum of Odontoto, Diakopto charms visitors with its excellent street layout, the flowered courtyards, the vast olive groves and citrus trees that surround it, as well as its crystal-clear, pebble beaches, such as the central beach, Egkali and Pounda. Today, the town offers excellent hospitality infrastructure, traditional fish taverns and beautiful cafes by the sea, making it a top destination for every season of the year, with very easy access from Athens and Patras.
